Why Won't You Change Your Mind, Dammit!

The Influence of the Change Resistant Brain on our Worldviews

The brain is resistant to change; it wants predictability and familiarity to keep us safe. Arguing and presenting facts does not work to change someone’s worldview; it causes us to become more attached to our views and opinions. So, what does work? Disrupting patterns and predictability through talking less, listening more, being genuinely curious and asking good questions.

About The Webinar

Remember that time you tried to change someone’s mind? How well did it go? For most of us, it becomes an argument. The more people argue, the more defensive they become and the more attached everyone becomes to their own worldview, including you. Most of us are not intentionally trying to be difficult.

How can we shift stuck arguments into more productive discussions? If presenting new information and ‘facts’ doesn’t work, what can we do? The brain is resistant to change. It works with and reinforces familiar patterns for predictability. To change minds, to open explorations, these patterns need to be disrupted.

While this sounds simplistic, talking less, being more curious, asking good questions and listening more maps a road to better discussions.

In this webinar, we will introduce you to the Worldview Intelligence SHEER Framework, from our e-learning course Conflict Avoidance to Productive Outcomes. It provides a 5-point structure to introduce enough uncertainty in someone’s attachment to their worldview that conversations become possible.

The 5 points of SHEER are: S – Stance or how you are planning to arrive to the conversation, situation or relationship; H – Hoped for Outcomes – or what you want to achieve with the conversation, person or situation; E – Empathy and compassion that you can bring; E – Engaging/inviting the conversation; and R – Results and Reflection, what happened what did you learn.

At the end of the session, you’ll walk away with actionable insight into inviting worldview explorations. Sign up today and begin transforming difficult conversations!
